Mentors are experienced legal leaders in Colorado who are passionate about giving back to the profession. They share their knowledge, skills, and insights to support the growth of newer attorneys and legal professionals. By guiding the next generation, they help strengthen professional excellence, foster connection, and contribute to a stronger, more ethical, and inclusive legal community.
CAMP’s unique matching methodology is based on knowing as much as we can about our mentees and their professional goals and pain points. Your profile helps us to determine how you will most benefit from our program and guides us in structuring your pre-match consultation and subsequent matching process to find you the most ideal mentoring partner.
CAMP is a “mentee-led” legal mentoring program, which means that the mentee guides the relationship direction and goals. You play a key role in deciding what professional skills development to focus on within your mentoring relationship and supporting the success of the relationship by maintaining regular communication with your mentor and applying lessons learned.
CAMP rejects the ‘one size fits all’ approach to mentoring. Our program is designed to be flexible and fully customizable, so each mentee can shape their own experience based on their professional goals and interests. There are no required meetings, time commitments, or rigid structures. Most mentoring pairs work together for 6-12 months and allocate 2-hours per month to the mentoring relationship.
Before any match is made, CAMP takes the time to get to know you. Our team has a one-on-one conversation with every mentee to understand your background, goals, and what you hope to gain from mentoring. Following your pre-match consultation, our staff compiles a curated list of potential mentors for consideration. After interviewing those mentors on your behalf, our staff will propose a hand-selected mentor for your consideration based on your unique professional development goals.
CAMP is not a job placement program and our mentors do not find jobs for their mentees. Instead, they provide valuable hiring-specific knowledge and advice. Mentors can guide you through the hiring processes typical in legal organizations, offer insights to prepare for interviews, and assist in developing your application materials.
CAMP is Colorado’s hub for legal mentoring resources. Your mentoring connection area includes a variety of videos, articles, and tools to maximize your mentoring relationship. You should also explore our website at www.coloradoattorneyexcellence.org for additional resources, events, and programs to support your professional growth.
It is normal that not all relationships will be perfect. If you find yourself in a situation where conflict or any other problem has developed, please email us at r.peyton@csc.state.co.us. A member of our team will work with you to resolve issues. If you and your mentor are not right for each other, we will end the mentoring partnership early in the relationship.
Yes! If you complete one of CAMP’s formal mentoring plans, you can earn up to 9 general and 2 ethics credits.
